LONG FINGERS BANDITS
The reason why I discovered the Long Finger Bandits is because that time I was following weekly a jazz band called Amanda Brown & The Common Ears where Parabhen Lad, singer and composer in the Long Finger Bandits was playing double bass and backing vocals and the well known Martin Smith was playing the trumpet.
When Parabhen showed me the previous recordings of the Long Finger Bandits I had the impression I musically found exactly the band I was looking for. An amazing mix of different influences from Jazz to Blues, Pop/Rock, Ska, Balcan, Grunge, Gipsy, Folk, Punk and more.
I love bands which mix different styles in a well balanced way.
After picking 4 songs to record we headed to the Motor Museum Recording Studio in Liverpool and started to work on the recordings.
In the studio there was a very chilled and positive atmosphere and I remember that during a break in the middle of the recordings we decided to track an acoustic version of their tune ‘Blue Moon’ which was totally unplanned and became my favorite song between the ones we recorded.
Later on Parabhen made a very artistic video for the song all by herself in her boat-house on the Liverpool Docks. I did not take long to understand that Parabhen artistic world was not just about music but also painting and visual performances. It is not a case that during their shows the band came on stage using eclectic costumes and make-up.
At the end, in addition to ‘Blue Moon’ we managed to release only another song between the ones we recorded, ‘Black Delilah’. The other tunes are safe in the trunk of the Ocean Waves unreleased tunes.
I am not quite sure if The Long Finger Bandits are still playing together but they are definitely one of the most interesting bands I heard while I was living in Liverpool.
