OCEAN WAVES BRASIL

Ocean Waves Brasil is a project that aims to explore new musical and cultural territories.

The first chapter focuses on the sacred music of Candomblé, an afro-Brazilian religion spread throughout Brazil. This traditional music is played by people who also belong to the religion, as all the members of our band do.

After forming a band and doing several rehearsals, everything was ready to be recorded. So we went to SMusic Studio in Natal and recorded seven songs, which are part of our LP called: Orixás Forças da Natureza.

Later, I had the idea of making remixes of the traditional songs. So I called three producers, from the UK and France, and asked them to remix some of the traditional songs that we recorded. Moodymanc, Leames and Germanager accepted and what came out was a mix of various styles, from Chill-out to House, Experimental and Electronic.

Since the beginning, I was aware that this project wasn’t just about music. Remaining primarily a musical/cultural project, it also has religion in it, mysticism and anthropology and of course the encounter with a community of people who showed us another vision of the world. That was key for the project.

Ocean Waves Brasil is the result of direct participation in many Candomblé rituals and ceremonies, rehearsals, studio recordings, search for locations and authorizations for filming the videos, search for dancers and production of their costumes and in general a lot of dedication by everyone involved.
