THE LEVONS
I remember the 1st time I heard a demo of ‘The Levons’ online, I was looking for bands to develop and produce. I really liked them straight away, songs like ‘Too Strange’ and ‘Come & Get it’ really hit my attention, there were not many tunes at that level of quality around Liverpool at that time.
So I decided to meet up with them and we agreed to record two songs together at the Liverpool iconic Parr Street Studios. My perception was that the band was different from the others I had worked with before.
First of all they looked and behaved like a proper family, a solid group of close friends respecting each other and making music together. This is not so common as you could imagine. These are the kind of bands that I prefer and that actually last more in time.
Second they came to the studio to work, not to drink beers and take selfies. It is not always like that so I appreciated it, the time for fun can be made later, after the work but not all bands understand that.
Their music was already well structured and well played that time and they were basically just starting. It does not surprise me to see that they are still together, even if they changed their name into ‘Peach Fuzz’ and after adding a couple of members they are now signed produced by the brilliant Skeleton Key Records.
I heard these guys playing different styles of music. Once they invited me in their rehearsal room and started to play something like early 70’s funk, like The Meters to give it a reference, with a touch of psychedelia too, I just loved that!
Surely the kind of people that will not give up music and have all the cards to do better and better and better.
